Homecoming revelers at the McMinnville-Hillsboro tilt at Wortman Stadium got their celebrations started early.

The Grizzlies scored touchdowns on each of their first five possessions in beating the Spartans, 47-17, on Friday night.

Mac capitalized on three fumbles and an interception, scoring 28 points off those turnovers and rolling to a 35-0 halftime lead over Class 6A Pacific Conference foe Hillsboro.

Tanner Scanlon had rushing touchdowns of 2 and 47 yards for the Grizzlies (4-2 overall, 2-2 Pacific Conference). Grant Rubado caught a touchdown pass and return a Spartans fumble 52 yards for a score.

Hillsboro slipped to 2-4 overall (1-3 Pacific Conference) with the loss.

Dayton 49, Willamina 0

Dayton improved to 6-0 overall on Friday night as the Pirates rolled over Class 3A West Valley League rival Willamina, forcing four turnovers and scoring all 49 of their points in the first half.

Tyler Clark rushed for three touchdowns for Dayton (3-0 West Valley), one of five different players to cross the goal line.

"They came to play," Bulldogs coach Tim France said. "They're a good team, they do things right and it shows in the final score. We knew coming into this they were going to be a pretty good measuring stick for us."

A bright spot for the Bulldogs (1-4 overall, 0-2 West Valley) was the play of senior Tyler Heidt, who recorded 22 tackles from his linebacker position.

"Heidt is this team's leader offensively and defensively," France said.

Willamina junior Jordan Combs carried the ball eight times for 70 yards during the game, and senior Coty Brown added 40 yards on 8 carries.

Scappoose 56, Yamhill-Carlton 7

The Tigers fell to 1-1 in Class 4A Cowapa League play (2-4 overall) with a loss at Scappoose (4-2, 1-1 Cowapa) on Friday night.

Horizon Christian 54, Sheridan 12

Sheridan lost at home to Class 3A West Valley League opponent Horizon Christian of Tualatin on Friday night, dropping its record to 1-4 overall (1-2 West Valley).

“The only positive part was that we only fumbled twice and we had hardly any penalties,” Spartans’ coach Brice Ingram said. “We just couldn’t stop any of their sweeps.”

Sheridan battled early and, at the end of the first quarter, the score was tied at 6. By the end of the half, the Hawks (2-4, 2-1 West Valley) had put 14 points between themselves and the Spartans.

By the third quarter, Horizon Christian led 30-6, and from there “it started to get ugly,” Ingram said.

“(Spartans lineman) Dylan Griffith had a good game,” Ingram said. “He was the lone bright spot defensively.”

Amity vs. Toledo, canceled
