SALEM — A McMinnville woman and her 9-year-old daughter were killed Tuesday night in a two-vehicle crash on Turner Road SE, south of the intersection with Airway Drive SE.
Salem police identified the victims as Kelly Moore, 26, and Jasmine Moore. Her twin sister, Jayden, was injured. The three were passengers in a vehicle driven by Hannah Reitz, 28, also of McMinnville.
Police gave this account of the crash, which occurred at 6:17 p.m.:
Reitz was northbound on Turner Road when her 1994 Ford Escort crossed into the path of a southbound 1997 Ford F-150 pickup driven by Jason McMurphy, 32, of Turner. The vehicles collided head-on, killing Kelly and Jasmine Moore.
Reitz, Jayden Moore and Reitz's 8-year-old daughter, Marena, were transported to Salem Hospital with potentially life-threatening injuries. Jayden and Marena were later transferred to a trauma center in Portland. McMurphy was hospitalized in Salem with less serious injuries.
The Kelly Moore Benefit Memorial Fund has been established with Wells Fargo Bank to help the Moore family with expenses.
The police department's Traffic Control Unit is investigating the crash. Lt. Dave Okada said it's not clear what caused the Escort to cross the center line, but it does not appear intoxicants or speed were factors.
