McMinnville man killed in fall from train

GASTON - A McMinnville man was killed Tuesday afternoon when he fell from a moving train at the Stimson Lumber Mill, west of Gaston.

The Washington County Sheriff's Office identified him as Antonio Avalos, 46. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Deputies gave this account:

They responded to the mill located at 49800 S.W. Scoggins Valley Road about 1 p.m. An investigation determined Avalos was working in the railyard when it is believed he fell from the front of the train that was pushing four empty railcars. Avalos was riding on the front car.

The tracks are used to transport train cars that carry lumber around the yard. The train was reportedly traveling at a slow speed when the incident occurred.

The Washington County Medical Examiner responded along with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration.
