McMinnville man arrested on sex charges

Jose Bautista

A McMinnville man was arrested Wednesday morning on charges alleging he had sexual contact with a female under 18 years old.

McMinnville police identified him as Jose Manuel Bautista, 48, of 1434 S.W. Emily Drive. He was arraigned Wednesday afternoon in Yamhill County Circuit Court on two counts of attempted first-degree sexual abuse, one count each of attempted first-degree rape and attempted first-degree sodomy and four counts of third-degree sexual abuse.

With the exception of the third-degree sexual abuse charges, a Class A misdemeanor, the charges are a mix of Class B and C felonies. Judge John Collins set bail at $250,000. Bautista has a preliminary hearing, or an arraignment on an indictment, scheduled for 1:20 p.m. Wednesday.

Bautista, who was known to the victim, was taken into custody about 2:30 a.m., according to Sgt. Tim Symons. He said police were notified about 8 p.m. Tuesday of the alleged abuse which reportedly dates back to the end of last school year.

Symons said there is no indication there are additional victims.

Anyone with information regarding this case or Bautista should contact Detective Michelle Formway at 503-434-7307 or michelle.formway@ci.mcminnville.or.us.
