"McMinnville council amends plastic bag ordinance"
TO ALL ON THE CITY COUNCIL. WHAT YOU ARE DOING IS ILLEGAL ON MAKING ANY RETAILER CHARGE FOR ANY AMOUNT FOR THE PAPER BAGS. GRANTED WE DON'T NEED PLASTIC BAGS, BUT YOU SHOULDN'T BE MAKING NON RESIDENTS OF McMINNVILLE PAY FOR THE PAPER BAGS.

Maybe more people will resume shopping in McMinnville after these reforms.

Back a few years the retailer said plastic or paper andthere was no charge. Now there is a charge for paper. Doesn't make sense. The retailer is making money where at one time he absorbed it. I have noticed that people come out of the market with just a couple items they can carry. If bags were free they probably would of bought more.

Mac Natice 66 - I believe the council is likely to repeal the part of the law requiring charge for bags, Adam Garvin made that suggestion and it seemed to have a lot of support. Seems like a good idea to me.

Been using Amazon Prime since this started. Free two day shipping, I know it is in stock without going to town. Ordered the wrong item and they paid for the return shipping.----and they don't charge for the boxes.Only buy perishables at Winco now. Actually, this is the future of shopping. Just don't appreciate being forced to pay the merchants overhead instead of having the merchant cater to me for my business. Plus this should have been voted on by the citizens.

Take note City Council, perhaps this subject will be in the voters pamphlet, likely the below is good enough pulse of the Residents of McMinnville.

Disappointed that some things will not be recycled anymore but I understand Recology not having a place to send it. Not looking forward to the information packet letting me know what I have to put in the trash now. is anything being done to find new resources for our recycling?

I have a question for all of you. I stopped by the Mexican Store next to Walgreens,I think its call EL Rancho Market. They are charging 5 cents for plastic bags. I have been there twice in the past month and they still charge customers the five cents after telling them that it was illegal. Any ideas in how report it or who to?

Thank you.

Only way to fight back against a tone deaf council who is trying to turn Mac into a little California with these kind of socialist regulations is to shop out of town. Any time I'm out of town I stop and buy things I would have bought in Mac and the rest I buy on Amazon. Will it change anything? Nope. But it makes me feel better.

So... you’re penalizing local businesses for an ordinance that the council came up with?.... interesting....

Mudstump

You would rather buy from Amazon where the money you spend never impacts this community?...doesn't support local jobs and businesses?....doesn't circulate through local banks and credit unions?....all because you don't like the plastic bag ordinance?... I think they call that cutting off your nose to spite your face. Buy local and keep the money circulating right here to keep our neighbors employed and our community thriving....bag ban or no bag ban.

At the grocery store last week, I spent $138 for items that ended up in two paper bags except for a few bulky, stand-alone items. I put it all in a shopping cart to walk out to my car, never once stopping to consider the injustice of it all. Ten Cents!! I didn't plan to boycott our city's retail community because I lost a dime; I'm not sure I would have stopped to pick up a dime in the parking lot; I didn't even think about the $1.20 I paid for beverage containers, even though I know I would recycle them from home instead of taking them to a store to recoup that money. I can only hope some of the response is "fake outrage" from people who don't really consider it a massive assault on human rights to have such a gentle reminder of society's need to reduce excess consumption of resources while protecting against proliferation of environmental pollution.
