Mayor's Ball still accepting reservations
“Royal Masquerade” is the theme for the 24th annual fundraiser. Proceeds will benefit Kids on the Block, the after school activity and academic enrichment program for McMinnville School District students.
The school district and city sponsor KOB with the help of a community board. It serves about 600 children a session throughout the school year.
This year’s ball will be decorated, à la the “Royal Masquerade” theme, in gold and jewel tones with brocade, mirrors and chandeliers. Guests will be encouraged to wear masks.
KOB participants will be making masks to decorate the community center. Wearable masks will be available from Accessory Appeal and other local stores.
Hundreds of volunteers are engaged in planning and running the event. They prepare a feast to fit the theme and gather donated items and activity packages for a silent auction.
Both those who attend and those who stay home can enter a raffle for a $2,500 travel package, consisting of $2,000 voucher for airfare, lodging, cruise fare and so forth along with $500 in cash. Tickets are $5 each or six for $25.
Mayor Rick Olson and his wife, Candy, will welcome guests to the 21- and-older event at 6:30 p.m.
The Humlie Trio will be joined by Dana Libonati in offering music for listening and dancing during the early part of the evening. Following a 9 p.m. program and announcement of the fundraising total, the High Street Band will perform rock, oldies, blues and swing until 12:30 a.m.
Attire is black tie or costume fitting the theme.
Tickets are $80 each, which covers music, dancing, the grand buffet, a souvenir wine glass and entrance to the silent auction. Beer and wine will be available.
A special “King’s Court” package is available for $100 per person. It includes regular admission plus one drink, a private beverage server, one raffle ticket and a 5x7 group photo.
