Magill returns to Amity football
Amity’s football staff, in the midst of rebuilding under recently hired head coach Justin Amaya, will include at least one more familiar face to the Warriors’ faithful.
Amaya hired longtime Amity football coach Joel Magill as his offensive coordinator, Magill confirmed in a message to the News-Register. Magill served as the Warriors’ head coach in two separate stints, the last of which ended in 2010.
Magill was the head coach for Amity’s last two state championship football teams, in 2003 (in Class 2A) and 2009 (Class 3A). Magill also led the 2002 team to the 2A state championship game, where Amity lost to rival Dayton.
Amaya was hired last week to replace Jared Hinkle, a former Linfield player and coach who resigned after one season to accept a teaching and coaching position at West Albany High School. Amaya is also the Amity boys basketball head coach and the West Salem boys tennis coach. He is the Warriors’ fifth football coach in the last five seasons.
