Mac softball earns first win for Seifert

Layne Pendleton and Kamrie Hoggard each had two hits to help the Grizzlies (1-1) to the win. Samantha Hensley threw seven innings and allowed five hits and one walk. She struck out three batters to earn the win.

Hensley and Makayla Khatewoda each had one hit. Hoggard also had two RBIs.

The Grizzlies were scheduled to play at 5 p.m. Monday at home vs. Jesuit then today at Sandy.


Boys tennis

The McMinnville boys tennis team swept Forest Grove 8-0 on the road Thursday. The Grizzlies are now 2-1 and 1-1 in the Pacific Conference. The Grizzlies lost Tuesday vs. Newberg.

 “Great effort,” McMinnville coach Wes Gabrielsen said. Kids bounced back after a tough loss to win convincingly.”

 Reza Refaei, still playing at No. 1 singles because Nathan Johnson is out, won 6-1, 6-7(5), 7-5 vs. Nathan Tanous, a state qualifier from last season. Cody Thomas, Bradyn Stowe and Wyatt Waterbury all won in straight sets.

In doubles, Will Worth and Adam Kiff won 6-2, 6-4 and No. 1 doubles. Brendon Walters and Nicky Domenichini won 6-2, 6-0 at No. 2 doubles, and Isaac Balwit and Daniel Post won 6-2, 6-1 at No. 3 doubles. George Zakaib and Bobby Orth won in straight sets at No. 4 doubles.

The Grizzlies play at 4 p.m. today at home vs. Tigard.
