Locals place in choir competition
Choirs from three local schools placed in the OSAA’s Class 1A/2A state choir competition, held last week at George Fox University in Newberg.
Veritas School from Newberg placed second behind North Clackamas Christian. Delphian placed third and Perrydale fourth.
McMinnville and Newberg high schools had choirs competing in large-school divisions. Several schools, including McMinnville and Amity High, also had bands competing in state band competition in Corvallis.
YCOM to meet Thursday
The Yamhill Communications Agency’s executive board is slated to meet at 3 p.m. Thursday, May. 16, in Room 32 of the county courthouse.
Its budget committee is planning to meet at 1 p.m. in the same location. Both meetings are open to the public.
The board is expecting an operational update from Director Janis Cameron.
Willamina board eyeing bond vote
WILLAMINA — The Willamina School Board is expected to settle on a bond election date when it meets at 7 tonight in the school library.
The board appears to be leaning toward the general election of Tuesday, Nov. 5. It is aiming to hold the amount below $5 million and the cost to taxpayers under $1 of assessed valuation.
The money would be used to complete upgrades on the Oaken Hills Drive campus.

Morning Kiwanis taking berry orders
McMinnville Walnut City Kiwanis Club is now taking orders for Oregon-grown fruit in conjunction with its 13th annual Berry Sale.
The club is offering fresh and frozen strawberries, along with frozen Marionberries and blueberries. The event is a fundraiser supporting local scholarships and children’s projects.
Deadline for ordering fresh, sliced and unsweetened strawberries is June 6, with delivery tentatively set for June 20, weather and crop conditions permitting. Deadline and pickup is later for frozen Marionberries, blueberries and strawberries, also left unsweetened.

The Walnut City Kiwanis Club, one of two in town, meets at 7 a.m. each Friday at Jake’s Deli, 128 S.W. Baker St. Guests are welcome.
Sheridan will hear presentations
SHERIDAN — The Sheridan School Board will hear a series of presentations when it meets at 6 p.m. Wednesday in the district office.
The board is also expected to act on the proposed 2013-14 budget for the Sheridan AllPrep Academy, described on its website as an online learning community.
