Linfield student struck on skateboard

McMinnville police gave this account:

Dillon Lytsell, 20, of Pendleton, northbound on a skateboard, was crossing Southwest Keck Drive in a marked crosswalk. He was struck there by Maria Alba, 18, of McMinnville, westbound in a 1997 Geo Metro with two passengers, a 9-year-old girl and 5-year-old boy.

Lytsell was transported by McMinnville Fire Department ambulance to the Willamette Valley Medical Center with injuries not considered life-threatening. Neither Alba nor her passengers were injured.

She estimated her speed at 15 mph. She said she didn’t see Lytsell.

Her car ran over his skateboard, breaking it into two pieces.

No citations were issued pending further investigation. Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact police at 503-434-7307.

Police remind drivers to always be aware of pedestrians crossing or about to cross the roadway, whether on foot, bicycle or skateboard. They remind bicyclists and skateboarders that crossing the street as a pedestrian is allowed, but the approach and crossing must be at a speed comparable to a pedestrian walking at a normal pace.
