Linfield student reports assault
Capt. Matt Scales identified the victim as 19-year-old Scott Jeffrey Drake, a resident of Hewitt Hall. He said Drake suffered facial injuries.
Drake initially declined medical treatment, but eventually agreed to accept transport by McMinnville Fire Department ambulance to the Willamette Valley Medical Center.
The student, who didn’t report the incident until about 1 a.m. Sunday, said he was attacked while walking alone on Southeast College Avenue. Scales said officers were not able to determine an exact location, because Drake provided them with conflicting information.
“He said the three suspects asked him for his cell phone,” Scales said. “When he didn’t give it to them, they started punching him. But he was able to get away.”
Drake said two of the suspects were wearing Obey sweatshirts and the third was wearing a black and white plaid dress shirt.
College Public Safety urges students crossing campus at night to travel in groups, be aware of their surroundings, stay alert, avoid confrontations and report suspicious activity.
Anyone with information about the assault is asked to call McMinnville police at 503-434-7307.
