Mr Terry certainly deflects the main issue of whether or not "separation of church and state" is included in the Constitution. The best he can do is write that it says that but uses different words. Mr Terry, I guess what you are saying is that anything is open to interpretation. I can't totally agree with the first letter but I certainly disagree with your explanation. Bottom line is that there is nothing in the constitution that says "separation of church and state". Religious means testing for public office is certainly wrong and should not be employed but if you use language not contained in the document that gives us freedoms and liberty a great disservice you are doing to yourself.

Liz Marlia-Stein -- 9/25 ... "Scott Gibson and I rarely disagree on public policy issues, yet when it comes to the demands of standardized testing in our schools, we have a conflict."

Employing the word 'conflict' was your choice. The NR simply used 'your definition' of the difference of opinion between you and Dr. Gibson (student testing), and created a title that might peak the reader's interest. It is, after all, the mission of the NR to sell papers.

Curiously, after reading Liz's submission, it would be at best a toss-up as to who is choosing to dramatize the topic, but that is a 'spat' for another time!
