Landfill opponents to appeal

The Stop the Dump Coalition/Waste Not of Yamhill County announced Thursday plans to appeal Yamhill County’s approval of a zone change designed to set the stage for another landfill expansion bid from Waste Management Inc.

They said they were filing notice of an intent to appeal to the state Land Use Board of Appeals.

In a press release, they said, “The Stop the Dump Coalition and the thousands of supporters whom it represents are confident that LUBA will overturn the poorly thought out decision made by Yamhill County Commissioners Springer and George on Feb. 13, 2014.”

They said the coalition was being joined by a trio of co-petitioners — the Willamette Valley Wineries Association, McPhillips Farm Inc. and Friends of Yamhill County. They said the parties would be represented in the action by William Kabeiseman and Carrie Richter of Garvey Schubert Barer.
