SHERIDAN — Newberg-Dundee police have declared the death of missing Dundee wife and mother Jennifer Huston a suicide.
Huston's body was found Tuesday near her car on a logging road off of Gopher Valley Road. Inside her car was an empty packet of sleeping pills she had purchased from a pharmacy the last day she had been seen. The cause of death has been ruled asphyxiation.
Police are still waiting for toxicology results. Huston left behind a note addressed to family members inside her vehicle.
The medical examiner determined that Huston had died very close to the time she had been reported missing July 24.
In a note, members of Huston's family expressed their gratitude to the community, law enforcement and media in attempting to find her. No plans for a memorial service have been made yet.
A neighbor spotted a green SUV that matched the description of Huston's vehicle Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. and alerted authorities. Yamhill County sheriff's deputies were dispatched to cordon off the area and secure the scene.
When Newberg-Dundee detectives arrived, they conducted a sweep of the area. In the course of that, they discovered Huston's body in a wooded area about 50 yards from her car.
Detectives proceeded to notify the family, the Yamhill County District Attorney's Office, the state Medical Examiner's Office and the Oregon State Police Crime Lab.
While they still need to complete their investigation, they said, there was nothing to suggest foul play and thus no indication of any danger to the public.
Authorities had searched the area from the air, but heavy tree cover obscured the car.
Police said her car had a full tank of gas and did not appear to have been involved in an accident.
Huston, 38, has been missing since the evening of Thursday, July 24. The news of her disappearance spread across the country and large-scale searches were conducted by friends, relatives, authorities and civilian well-wishers.
