Hyder Family Dental defeats Glencoe, Newberg

Hyder Family Dental keeps improving and keeps finding its way into the win column.

McMinnville’s OIBA baseball squad swept Glencoe in a Sunday doubleheader at the McMinnville baseball field at Patton Middle School on Sunday night. The Grizzlies scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to knock off the Crimson Tide, 2-1, in the first game, and held off Glencoe in a high-scoring second game, 11-8.

Hyder (8-2) trailed the Crimson Tide 1-0 entering the bottom of the seventh inning in the first game before Lane Hessel tied it with a suicide squeeze to bring Riley McAnally home. In the next at-bat, Adrian Uscanga singled home Josh Irving to give the Grizzlies the victory.

Jesse Ehrhart earned the win on the mound with a complete-game victory. Ehrhart allowed five hits and one unearned run, walking one and striking out four.

Jacob Fong helped pace Hyder Family Dental with two doubles and four RBI in the second game, part of a 3-for-4 performance that allowed the Grizzlies to sweep the Crimson Tide.

Nathan Leid earned the win in relief, allowing three runs on five hits in 4 2/3 innings pitched.

Hyder Family Dental hosted Westview on Monday. The Grizzlies travel to Newberg Wednesday for a 6 p.m. contest before traveling to a tournament in Bend beginning Thursday.

Kyle Casey hit the go-ahead two-run single in the sixth inning as the Grizzlies defeated the Tigers on Friday afternoon at the McMinnville baseball field at Patton Middle School.

David Brosius went 2-for-2 with two doubles and an RBI for Hyder Family Dental, and Lane Hessel went 2-for-4 with a run scored. Riley McAnally went 2-for-3 with a run scored for the Grizzlies, and Geovanni Esparza added an RBI single.

Jacob Fong earned the win in relief for Hyder, allowing four hits and one run in three innings pitched.
