Heat wave on the way
Enjoy today's milder temperatures, while they last.
The National Weather Service has issued a special weather statement warning that things are about to heat up.
“A prolonged heat wave will develop over southwest Washington and Northwest Oregon Saturday, nd persist through at least the middle of next week,” it warns. “High temperatures Monday and Tuesday may reach or slightly exceed 100 degrees in many areas. Sunday will not be as hot as Saturday or early next week due to extensive cloud cover and potential shower and thunderstorm activity.
“In addition to the hot temperatures early next week it will become more humid resulting in very mild nights. Low temperatures Sunday night through Tuesday night are expected to be in the upper 50s to near 70.
“Maintaining proper hydration will be very important over the next few days. Avoid extra exertion during the afternoon and early evening hours.
"Do not leave children or pets unattended in cars.
"Many fatalities that have occurred over the years during hot spell episodes take place on area rivers. Take extra care when recreating on the rivers.”
