McMinnville’s Grocery Outlet is holding an Independence from Hunger food drive the month of July. All food and cash netted in the drive will be donated to the Yamhill Community Action Partnership’s regional food bank.

Owners Ed and Sheryl Ryker said they are proud to take up the challenge to help combat hunger in the community during the summer, which is typically a slow time for donations. “As local business owners, we are always looking for ways to make a real difference in the lives of those who live and work within our community,” the Rykers said.

This is the third year Grocery Outlet stores have conducted campaigns for the communities they serve. Last year, the local store alone filled 20 barrels of food valued at $3,000.

The store will feature specially marked high-need items that can be placed in collection bins in front. Cashiers will also accept cash donations at checkout.

Outside activities will be staged from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, July 20. A hot dog and drink will be offered for $1 and local products will be given away.

The drive will be capped with a raffle on Saturday, Aug. 3, for all customers having made donations of $5 or more. For more information, contact the store at 503-434-4490 or mcminnville@groceryoutlet.com.

WHERE’S WALDO?

The are more than 50 million “Where’s Waldo?” children’s books in print. The series was created by Martin Handford in 1987.

There is no charge to participate in the local event. For more information, contact Third Street Books at 503-472-7786 or info@thirdstreetbooks.com.
