Grizzlies play at Newberg tonight
Junior Gage Gubrud scored 20 points, and senior Nicholas Autencio added 15 points, hitting five 3-pointers.
“Nic got us off to a good start,” McMinnville coach Willie Graham said. “It really helps everyone when he’s hitting.”
McMinnville plays at 7:15 p.m. tonight at 1-20 Newberg. The Grizzlies finish the season at home Tuesday vs. Forest Grove, which is chasing Mac in the standings. The Vikings are currently 5-7 in the standings and need to win their final two games just to have a chance of catching Mac.
McMinnville ran out to a good start Tuesday at Glencoe. Mac led 19-7 after the first quarter and 33-13 at halftime.
“Defensively we did a good job pressuring them,” Graham said. “That made a big difference.”
Mac outscored Glencoe 31-28 in the second half. The Grizzlies hit 10 3-pointers in the game.
Taylor Vicknair had nine points, and Blaine Parker scored four for the Grizzlies.
Drew Spence and Michael Coste both scored three points. Matthew Long, Tanner Autencio, Bryce Anderson, Alex Israel and Blake Egli all scored two points for Mac.
The win moved Mac to 11-10 on the season and 7-5 in the conference. The Grizzlies have won six of their last eight games, including two in a row.
Graham said there wasn’t much time to reflect on the win. Mac has to keep plugging along. With two more wins the Grizzlies could clinch another playoff appearance and wouldn’t have to play in the play-in round.
“Both of these games are huge,” he said. “A lot is on the line for us. It would be big to not play in the play-in round. It’s a chance for us to get healthy and rest a bit.”
