Grand Ronde man rescued from river bank

He was identified as Adam Thayer, 27, of 8260 Grand Ronde Road. He was taken to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office substation, where he was released after medical personnel elevated his body temperature and completed an evaluation.

The sheriff’s office gave this account:

Shortly after midnight, deputies were dispatched in response to a report of a man stranded on the riverbank. Deputies were able to communicate with him, but were not able to reach him due to dense brush.

A search and rescue team was activated about 1:45 a.m. It reached Thayer about 4:30 a.m.

He was clad in shorts and a shirt. He had lost his shoes.

Thayer said his vehicle became stuck in the woods Sunday night. He said he knew the casino was nearby and thought he could reach it on foot.

However, heavy brush, rough terrain and the river combined to prevent him.
