Games allow Grizzlies victory over Forest Grove

The McMinnville boys tennis team split singles and doubles down the middle but walked away with a 4-4 (64-58) victory by game scores over Forest Grove in Class 6A Pacific Conference play Thursday night in McMinnville.

All four singles players for the Grizzlies walked away with victories, while each of the four doubles teams dropped their matches.

Edoardo Colombari turned in a 6-3, 6-0 victory for McMinnville at No. 1 singles over Doug Wilbur of Forest Grove. At No. 2 singles, Daniel Post of the Grizzlies trounced Mitchell Faris of Forest Grove, 6-0, 6-0.

No. 3 singles player Drew Altringer defeated Kimo Fong of Forest Grove in straight sets, 6-3, 6-1, and No. 4 singles player K.J. Smith defeated Octavio Mejia-Garfias of the Vikings, 6-2, 6-1. The victories helped offset four straight-set losses by the Grizzlies’ doubles teams in which McMinnville won 16 games.

The McMinnville girls tennis team’s match at Forest Grove, scheduled for Thursday, was postponed due to rain and will be made up at a date to be determined.
