Former Mac educator dies in crash

His wife, Lynn Jean Lawson, 48, was seriously injured in the crash, which occurred north of the community of Ferney. She was flown to Aberdeen for treatment of injuries not thought to be life-threatening.

According to the South Dakota Highway Patrol, Gus Lawson was driving a 2001 Nissan Pathfinder when he drifted over the center lane, then over-corrected. The vehicle slid into a ditch on the east side of the road, rolled three times and came to rest on the passenger side.

The Lawsons, both educators with international experience, owned and operated the International Community School in McMinnville.

In addition to his wife, Lawson is survived by three daughters, Emily, Claire and Abby Lawson. Services were held Aug. 16 under the direction of Price Funeral Chapel of Britton, South Dakota.
