Fluke, Pirates defeat Santiam Christian

ADAIR VILLAGE – In a rematch of a 2013 Class 3A state semifinal softball game, Dayton once again took care of business against Santiam Christian.

The Pirates – the Class 3A runners-up in 2013 – scored eight runs in the sixth inning to defeat the Eagles, 10-2, on Tuesday.

Junior Rachael Fluke went 2-for-4 with a home run, a double and two RBI for Dayton (1-0). Cassi Hill and Sydney Van Noy also went 2-for-4 for the Pirates.

Dayton starting pitcher Sierra Ray threw a complete-game two-hitter against Santiam Christian (0-1). Both Eagles runs came in the fourth inning, giving Santiam Christian a 2-1 lead over the Pirates before the sixth-inning outburst.

Dayton played Rainier on Thursday and hosts Regis tonight at 4:30 p.m. The Pirates’ next games come at the North Marion Spring Break Tournament, beginning Tuesday in Molalla.


Willamina 11, Regis 0 (6)

STAYTON – Jill Coblentz threw a complete-game two-hitter, striking out nine, and five Bulldogs had two or more hits as Class 3A Willamina routed Class 2A Regis on the road.

Maryssa Myers racked up a double, a triple and two RBI on 2-for-4 hitting for the Bulldogs (1-1) Cheyanne Fasana went 3-for-4 with a double, a triple and two RBI. Madison Leno, Nikia Mooney and Coblentz each had two hits for Willamina.

The Bulldogs scored three runs in the first inning, four runs in the third inning and four runs in the sixth inning to put the game into mercy rule territory.

Willamina plays at Nestucca tonight at 4:30 p.m., then at Santiam Christian Saturday for a doubleheader beginning at noon.


Amity 11, Jefferson 1 (5)

AMITY – Shayla Pendergraft threw a complete-game one-hitter, and the Warriors scored 10 runs in the first inning en route to a mercy-rule victory over the Lions in Class 3A nonleague play.

Amity (1-1) hosts Harrisburg tonight at 4:30 p.m., then plays at Toledo Monday at 4 p.m.


March 18

Harrisburg 13, Sheridan 3 (5)

HARRISBURG – The Eagles defeated the Spartans in Class 3A nonleague play. Sheridan (0-1) hosts Vernonia in a doubleheader Saturday at noon, then plays at Western Mennonite Monday in a noon doubleheader.


March 17

Vernonia 11, Amity 7

AMITY – The Class 3A Warriors lost to the Class 2A Loggers in Monday’s nonleague contest.


Taft 5, Willamina 0

LINCOLN CITY – The Class 3A Bulldogs were shut out by the Class 4A Tigers in Monday’s nonleague contest.
