Fields to be dedicated in honor of Homeres
Homeres, who retired in 2012 after about 30 years in the post, was instrumental in boosting participation in youth baseball and softball programs from about 200 to nearly 900.
His father, Victor, died of suspected heart complications earlier this week. City officials said the family still wanted to attend the dedication ceremony, and was trying to work things out.
Plans call for Dan to throw out the first pitch to open the 2013 youth baseball/softball season about 9:30 a.m. The formal dedication, to be accompanied by brief remarks by city officials, are scheduled to follow.
Victor, a retired paint and body shop operator, moved the family from Los Angeles to McMinnville many years ago. In support of Dan’s involvement, he volunteered his painting services for all the signs used at the Dancer Park ballfields.
