Farmers market planned in Yamhill

Plans call for Saturday operation in the covered area at the Old Mill, which houses Treasure Traders and a regular flea market. Bob Amy and Mary Bowin own the building, which is just off Highway 47 in downtown Yamhill.

Holly Nettles, one of the organizers, said the plan is one of several arising from the HEAL meetings held in the Yamhill-Carlton area this spring.

Funded through a Yamhill County Public Health grant from the Northwest Health Foundation, HEAL stands for Healthy Eating Active Living. It is committed to promoting better eating habits and a more active lifestyle.

Other projects associated with HEAL include development of produce exchanges, a farm-to-school program, a guide to area resources and community gardens like the one now being tended in Carlton. Ken Wright’s Rails to Trails project, which involves turning an abandoned rail line into a walking trail, also fits HEAL goals.
