Enrollment soaring on local campus

According to John Plett, Chemeketa averaged 1,821 students taking 4,260 courses during 2011-12, the first year at its new Highway 18 campus across from the hospital. The previous year, when the college was still operating at a smaller site on Hill Road, on McMinnville’s west side, it averaged 1,566 students taking 3,685 classes, he said.

And he said the college is continuing to experience enrollment gains in 2012-13 so far.

Plett said summer enrollment was up 48 percent and fall enrollment rose 27 percent. He said winter enrollment is already up 10.5 percent, and students are still signing up for some classes.

“We are delighted,” Plett said. “We seem to be meeting a local need.”

The new, three-story campus is much larger than the Hill Road facility, which Chemeketa had called home for more than 30 years. It also features more services and facilities, including a library, cafeteria and bookstore.
