Dayton blasts off against Amity

AMITY – Jarred Montgomery pitched a two-hit shutout and Jared Thompkins hit a three-run home run as the Dayton baseball team shut down Class 3A West Valley League rival Amity, 11-0, in five innings on Tuesday night.
Following Thompkins’ third-inning home run, the Pirates (4-3, 3-0 WVL) poured on seven runs in the fourth inning, punctuated by a two-run double by Caleb Letney and an RBI double by Jarred Ashley. Letney, Dayton’s leadoff hitter, went 3-for-4 in the contest.
Amity starter Donald Goodwin absorbed the loss.
The Pirates host Gervais tonight at 5 p.m. and play Central at 1 p.m. Saturday in Independence.
Amity (3-7, 1-2 WVL) hosts Colton tonight at 5 p.m. before playing at Warrenton at noon on Saturday.

YAMHILL – Tanner Myrick scored the tying run on Quentin Benson’s groundout in the seventh inning and Braden Martin brought Zach Rhodes home with an RBI double as the Tigers defeated the Fishermen in their Class 4A Cowapa League debut Tuesday.
Michael Mitchell and Ryan Bray also drove in runs for Yamhill-Carlton (2-6, 1-0 Cowapa). Benson picked up the win with two scoreless innings in relief.
Y-C played at Astoria on Thursday. The Tigers will face Junction City on the road Saturday at 1 p.m.

Willamina 9,
Gervais 4
WILLAMINA – Dylan Blakely tossed a complete-game three-hitter, striking out seven, and the Bulldogs scored six runs in the fifth inning for their first Class 3A West Valley League win of the season over the Cougars.
Coty Brown went 2-for-4 with two RBI for Willamina (2-9, 1-1 WVL). Mark Mayes hit a two-run single in the fifth inning, and Josh McCormick went 2-for-3 with an RBI.
Willamina plays at Rainier tonight and at Sheridan on Tuesday. Both games start at 4:30 p.m.

Sheridan 4 (5)
SHERIDAN – The Class 3A Spartans allowed nine runs in the fifth inning in a five-inning loss to the Class 2A Boomers in Wednesday night’s nonleague contest.
Hayden Purrone went 1-for-3 with two RBI for Sheridan (4-6, 0-2 Class 3A West Valley), while Matt Bushbaum went 1-for-2 with an RBI. It is the Spartans’ fifth consecutive loss to date.
Sheridan plays Horizon Christian tonight at 5 p.m. in Tualatin before the Spartans rekindle their rivalry with Willamina Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.

SCIO – The Class 2A Loggers defeated the Class 3A Spartans in a nonleague contest Tuesday afternoon in Scio.
