Dayton, Amity ousted in 3A state playoff games
GLIDE – In its Class 3A state playoffs first-round game, the Dayton baseball team ran into a force in the form of Glide pitcher Jacob Fricke.
Fricke threw a complete-game two-hitter as the No. 4 Wildcats knocked the No. 13 Pirates out of the playoffs on Wednesday.
Jade Downs and Jarred Ashley recorded the only hits of the game for Dayton (11-12, 9-3 West Valley League).
“They were pleased with the result,” Pirates coach Roger Lorenzen said of his team. “One of things I asked them to do was play with lots of fire. They made two great inning-ending plays defensively. It was great to see guys come out of the dugout and pat them on the back.”
Dayton pitcher Jarred Montgomery went the distance, allowing six hits in the loss. Montgomery struck out six but walked six (one intentionally) and hit three batters.
Glide (22-3) advances to the quarterfinals, where it plays Harrisburg tonight.
Valley Catholic 19, Amity 1 (5)
BEAVERTON – Brett Hilt scored on a Colby Graham groundout, but the Warriors could not match the Valiants offensively in Wednesday’s Class 3A state playoffs first-round game.
Amity, seeded No. 16, finishes its season with an 11-14 record (6-6 West Valley League). No. 1 Valley Catholic (26-1) moves on to face Blanchet Catholic tonight.
