Crash into tree nets driver a DUII

Sgt. Tim Symons of the McMinnville police identified the driver as Cory Maxwell Hallmark, 21, of 260 N.W. 14th St. He provided the following account:

About noon, Hallmark was eastbound on Eighth, traveling at a high rate of speed in a 1998 Acura Integra. He had three passengers with him.

As he crossed the railroad tracks, he lost control and slid sideways into a tree on the south side of the street.

Passengers Coleman Hale Long, 20, of 1519 S.W. Wright St., McMinnville, and Rachel Joann Surdow, 19, of 20801 S. Highway 99W, McMinnville, had to be extricated by McMinnville Fire Department rescue personnel, who cut the roof of the car to gain access. They were transported by ambulance to the Willamette Valley Medical Center for treatment of injuries not said to be life-threatening.

The third passenger fled on foot. So did Hallmark, but police were able to track him down.

The case has been forwarded to the district attorney’s office. Symons said it may file additional charges.
