Commissioners discuss special event for vets
On Monday afternoon commissioners discussed plans for hosting a Veteran’s Community Covenant Signing event at the Yamhill County Fair from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Friday, Aug. 2.
In response to last year’s successful veterans’ forum, commissioners agreed to put on the event to both honor local veterans and to show community support for them.
Commissioner Kathy George, liaison to the County Veteran’s office, said the covenant is a document intended to express community recognition for the sacrifices veterans, service members and their families have made.
“Further, it’s a commitment from our local communities to build partnerships to support these men and women and their families, both during times of service and as they reintegrate into civilian life,” George said.
In addition to the official covenant documents that will be signed by local public representatives, there will be a large banner for members of the community to sign in support as well.
In addition, admission is free for all Yamhill County veterans all day Friday, Aug. 2, if they pick up an admission voucher at any of the following locations:
* Yamhill County Veterans Services
* Yamhill County Commissioners Office
* Yamhill County Sheriff’s Office, records desk
* Oregon Employment Department
* Yamhill Work Source Center
* Local Veterans of Foreign Wars or American Legion posts.
