Class 3A, Class 2A girls basketball players honored
McMinnville resident and Western Mennonite sophomore Emma Gibb was named Class 2A girls basketball co-Player of the Year, one of seven Yamhill County girls who received Class 2A or Class 3A all-state honors.
Gibb led the Lady Pioneers with 13.6 points and 10.3 rebounds per game, also blocking 2.1 shots per game. The 6-foot-2 forward held Western Mennonite to a second-place finish at the Class 2A state tournament, the best in school history.
Western Mennonite junior Jenna Christenson, a Dayton resident, was named to the 2A all-state second team. Christenson averaged 12.7 points, 2.7 assists and 2.7 steals per game in 2013-14, leading the Lady Pioneers in the latter category.
In Class 3A, Willamina senior Whitney Anderson garnered all-state first team honors after leading the Bulldogs to third place at the Class 3A state tournament in 2013-14. Anderson averaged 10.9 points, 4.6 rebounds, 3.9 assists and 4.6 steals per game.
Bulldogs senior Kyra Toney was named to the 3A all-state second team. Toney averaged 9.4 points, 5.1 rebounds and 1.8 steals per game for Willamina.
All-state honorable mentions included Dayton sophomore Teddi Hop, Amity sophomore Lindsay McShane and Willamina sophomore Kasey Anderson.
