having some entertainment in town is great but not if it's going to put our youth at risk, it's just not worth it.
ItIsWhatItIs,
Close, damned close and kinda spookie if you ask me. Put on a lime-green sleeveless shirt, some gaudy earrings and you'd have the spiit'n image of Mr. Garrison aka Miss Garrison aka Janet Garrison aka Mr. Garrison again on South Park.
We need to provide local young people need a place to go, dance, and yes, drink, but optimally, responsibly, and I'm talking about young adults age 21 and over. We do not provide alternatives for them here in town.
I have heard there have been problems at Cabana with over serving, and that needs to be addressed, but one is left to wonder, why the emphasis on the Cabana while the same is going on with the other bars here in town?
Again, we are a college town, many of the patrons of the Cabana are college students. Many of those who frequent the Cabana walk.
Upon reading this story, and how the Mac PD has over and over emphasized it was "happenstance" they came upon this, it sounds more and more like a set up.
Don't get me wrong, if this actually happened then Dan should be punished, but at the same time we have much more serious crime going on here in McMinnville on a Friday night. So sad those who "protect and serve" weren't out doing so much better than targeting a stupid bar.
Maybe a watering hole similar to that of the old St. James Infirmary down in Mountain View, CA. would do well up here in McMinnville? Perhaps the McMinnville police department might even consider investing some of it's retirement funds into such a venture?
And apparently, some Middle and High School students as well…
Seriously though, why do some people jump straight to conspiracy theories regarding our police department? Where do you think the Police (who are here to protect and serve) are going to be most needed on a Friday night? Maybe on the downtown streets of a college town where college kids are hopping from bar to bar. I hate to tell you this, but drunk college kids occasionally get rowdy. Now I’m no expert on police procedure, but common sense would tell me that when they are not on a call, they should probably hang out close to where the action might be for quicker response times. Where would you have them be? Up Peavine, 15 minutes from EVERYTHING? Maybe cooling their heels in the Wal-Mart parking lot (where they would, of course, be accused of targeting ANOTHER bar for DUI’s).
I, for one, am pretty pleased with how the police around here do their jobs. I DO however, wish they would start to crack down on the knuckleheads who forget that their cars are equipped with turn-signals.
