Backpack in bushes proves harmless
However, through use of a robot, the Oregon State Police Arson and Explosives Unit determined it contained nothing more than a sleeping bag and some clothing.
According to Capt. Dennis Marks of the McMinnville police, the bomb squad sent a robot rolling toward the backpack around noon.
The robot pulled it out of the bushes and shot it with a water cannon. The force of the water blast freed the contents, which proved harmless.
The streets in front of the courthouse were closed while the operation was conducted, serving to disrupt bus operations. Officers in the front part of the courthouse were evacuated as well.
