Arrest made in McMinnville man's murder
SALEM — A Salem man, wanted by Illinois authorities, was arrested Saturday by Salem police and charged with murder in connection with the Saturday, April 6 shooting death of Andrew Entizne of McMinnville.
Pedro Delgado Suarez, 21, was arraigned Monday afternoon in Marion County Circuit Court. He is lodged without bail and will return to court at 1:15 p.m. Wednesday, May 1 for a trial report conference.
The 32-year-old Entizne, whose last known McMinnville address was on Southwest Taylor Drive, was found dead about 3 a.m. near the intersection of Fairway Drive and Rees Hill Road in Southeast Salem. The intersection is in a residential area lying Commercial Street and Sunnyside Road. It features apartments, condos, single-family homes and a park.
Salem police responded to a shots fired report when they discovered a silver sedan off the roadway in dense underbrush. Tire tracks led from the intersection to the car.
Officers located Entizne’s body inside. An autopsy determined he died of a gunshot wound.
Suarez told police he parked his vehicle on Rees Hill Road and was instructed by accomplices to watch for the police, the Statesman Journal newspaper reported, citing the probable cause affidavit.
He was told to honk his horn if saw police and to drive away when he heard gunshots. Suarez said he waited for Entizne to drive past.
Suarez said the decision to shoot Entizne was made April 5. Suarez initially denied knowing the victim, but later admitted to being involved in the murder.
Police would not comment on how many other suspects they are looking for or a motive for the shooting.
