Another overtime win for McMinnville

The McMinnville girls basketball team led for most of its game Friday vs. Newberg, but with four seconds left in regulation, it was the Tigers that had the chance to snatch victory from defeat.

Alex Green was fouled by Audrey McMillan on a questionable call with four seconds left in the fourth quarter, but Green missed both of her free throws with the score tied, and that sent the game to overtime, where the Grizzlies (10-6, 4-3) pulled out a 50-44 win at The Furnace.

Audrey and Grace McMillan combined for 28 points, including all eight in overtime, helping McMinnville pull out its second overtime victory in a week.

The Grizzlies led 13-9 after the first quarter and 25-21 at halftime, but Newberg just wouldn't go away. McMinnville led by nine points late in the third quarter, but Newberg went on a 9-0 run to tie the game at the start of the fourth quarter.

Mac led 42-39 with 1:55 left in regulation, but Abbie Woginrich hit a 3-pointer with a minute left to tie the game. The Grizzlies had a chance but turned the ball over, which led to Green getting fouled in the final seconds.

McMinnville scored the first six points of overtime, and Grace McMillan added the final touches with a layup with five seconds left in the game.

Grace McMillan scored 15 points, and Audrey McMillan added 13. Emily Bliven and Taylor Petersen both scored six points, and Montanna Gubrud scored five. Nicole Long scored four points, and Molly Olsen scored one point.

The Grizzlies (10-6, 4-3) play at 5:45 p.m. Tuesday at Hillsboro.

Mac beat Forest Grove on the road Jan. 18 64-60 in overtime.
