Amity boys take down Willamina
AMITY – The Amity boys team (10-2, 2-0) kept rolling Friday with a 65-21 win over Wilamina (0-10, 0-2).
Zack Wilson scored 18 points and had 7 steals in limited minutes for the Warriors, as coach Justin Amaya got important time for many reserves during the game.
T.R. McShane scored 12 points for the Warriors, Billy Hale added 11 and Brett Hilt had eight points to go with nine rebounds. Amaya said Derek Ojua "was his usually dominant self" while collecting double-digit rebounds.
Dayton 66, Sheridan 54
SHERIDAN – Zach Bernards led all scorers with 18 points (6-of-8 three-point shooting) and Corwin Hiatt had 13 points and nine rebounds as the Pirates triumphed over the Spartans in Class 3A West Valley League play.
Dayton (6-5, 1-1 WVL) led 22-13 after the first quarter and never relented, shooting 42.1 percent from the field (24-of-57). The Pirates also outrebounded Sheridan, 44-30.
Dominique Card led the way for the Spartans (3-7, 0-2 WVL) with 15 points and four rebounds. Vinny Goonan (12 points) and Jacob Hertel (11 points) also hit double figures for Sheridan.
Zach Spink and Jarred Ashley each scored 11 points for Dayton.
The Pirates played Westside Christian on Monday in Portland and host Willamina at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Sheridan hosted Gervais on Monday and travels to Tualatin to face Horizon Christian at 7 p.m. Wednesday.
Junction City 60, Yamhill-Carlton 36
JUNCTION CITY – The Tigers lost to Junction City in Class 4A nonleague play. Yamhill-Carlton (6-5) plays at Philomath on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.
Dayton 41, Sheridan 20
SHERIDAN – Teddi Hop scored 20 points as the Pirates defeated the Spartans in Class 3A West Valley League play.
Dayton outscored Sheridan 26-8 in the first half and continued its strong play from there.
Cooper Ringnalda scored eight points for Dayton. Jill Nichols led Sheridan with six points.
