Amity beats Horizon Christian, joins it
The West Valley League no longer has an unbeaten team.
Depending upon the last two weeks of the season, it may even have co-champions.
The Amity Warriors, ranked No. 8 in OSAA Class 3A boys basketball coaches poll, upset No. 7-ranked Horizon Christian of Tualatin, 55-47, before a feverish crowd at Amity High School on Monday night.
It was the first time the Warriors (18-3, 9-1 Class 3A West Valley League) had beaten the Hawks (14-5, 9-1) since Jan. 11, 2008, and it bumped them right up against Horizon Christian at the top of the WVL standings with three games to play.
"We wanted to tie it up for first," Amity senior Zach Wilson said. "That's our goal -- to win the league."
Wilson led the Warriors with 17 points. Lance Nelson contributed 13 points to Amity's effort, and Billy Hale added 10 points.
Horizon Christian guard Trent Pihas had 11 of his game-high 19 points in the fourth quarter as the Hawks attempted to surmount a 13-point deficit in the second half.
