2013 baseball/softball playoffs update
The Pirates held their West Valley League playoff opponents, Colton, scoreless in their 3-0 win Friday at home. With the win, Dayton won the West Valley League title, it’s third in a row.
The win completed Dayton’s (21-3) three-game series sweep of the Vikings (15-9) over the course of the season. The Pirates won the series by the combined score of 10-2.
Jamie Chenea got the win for the Pirates, her 11th win of the season. Chenea finished the regular season 11-1 with an ERA just over one.
The Pirates begin the 3A state playoffs Wednesday vs. Bandon of the Sunset League. Game time is 4 p.m. at the Dayton softball field. The Tigers (10-12) finished second in league to Glide.
Last season the Pirates went to the 3A state semifinals and lost 10-5 to Blanchet Catholic.
The Yamhill-Carlton softball program begins the 4A state playoffs Wednesday.
The Tigers (19-7) play Sutherlin on the road at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday and come into the game riding a 10-game win streak. Yamhill-Carlton has won its last four games by a combined score of 49-2.
The Tigers beat their play-in opponent, Ridgeview, 10-0 in five innings to advance to the 4A state playoffs.
For the eighth straight season, the Willamina Bulldogs softball team made it to the 3A state playoffs.
The Bulldogs (14-8) got there after beating Sheridan 9-3 in their league playoff. Willamina will go on the road and take on Rogue River of the Southern Cascade League on Wednesday.
The Dayton Pirates will also play in the 3A state playoffs. The Pirates are making their third straight appearance in the 3A state playoffs. In the first round Dayton (15-7) plays at 5 p.m. Wednesday at Valley Catholic.
