$6,000 donated to Shared Hope at Soroptimist's event
The speaker's statement that between 100,000 and 300,000 children are lured into sex trafficking every year brought gasps from the 50 people who listened to her talk at the McMinnville Community Center. Alston shared stories of children from the United States being rescued and videos, including an undercover officer negotiating with a pimp for an underage girl, brought the stories to life.
Shared Hope works to bring justice to victims of sex trafficking by supporting the development of global, federal and state policies and legislation. It also developed the Protected Innocence Challenge, which has rated all 50 states after investigating their state laws, and Oregon was rated D in 2012.
