ODOT awards first contract for work on Newberg-Dundee Bypass

The Oregon Department of Transportation has awarded the first major contract for work on the first phase of the Newberg-Dundee Bypass.

LaDuke Construction of Talent won the $8 million contract. The company will start work this summer to construct embankments for bridge approaches on the route, which will extend from Highway 219 in Newberg to Highway 99W south of Dundee.

ODOT officials said the $262 milion, two-lane bypass will be a controlled-access expressway aimed at reducing traffic congestion on Highway 99W.

The state plans to award three more major contracts over the next three years. The bypass is expected to open in 2016.

ODOT will hold two open houses in June to share the latest design information about the project. The public events are planned from 6 to 8 p.m.  Tuesday, June 11, in the Dundee Community Center, 1026 Highway 99W in Dundee, and from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 12, in the Chehalem Youth Center, 620 N. Morton St., Newberg.
