McMinnville Track Club holds registration

The McMinnville Track Club is accepting registration for the upcoming summer track season.  The Club is open to all area youth athletes ages 7-18, at all skill levels and disciplines.

All athletes are enrolled in USA Track and Field (USATF). Registration fees include USATF membership, club membership, T-shirt, uniform and use of club equipment. The season runs through early July.

Girls basketball camp set for June 27-30

The McMinnville Girls Basketball Program will be running their annual girls basketball camp Monday through Thursday, June 27-30, at Patton Middle School, 1175 NE 19th St, McMinnville. It is open to all girls who will be entering first through ninth grade during the 2016-2017 school year. First through second grade will run from 10 a.m. to noon and costs $40; third through fourth grade will run from 9 a.m. to noon and costs $50; fifth through ninth grade will run from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and costs $60.

The camp places an emphasis on fundamentals, instruction in individual and team offense and defense, and will hold competitive contests and games. The camp is directed by McMinnville Girls Basketball Coach Sean Coste, assistant coaches and former high school players, along with current members of the McMinnville Girls Basketball team. Registration will be available at the McMinnville Community Center and via high school, middle school, and elementary school take-home folders. Interested parties may also contact Coach Coste at McMinnville High School for registration.

SYL Foundation holds soccer camp

The See Ya Later Foundation will be holding its SYL soccer camp for children in grades 1-5 July 22-23 at Joe Dancer Park, 1450 S.E. Brooks St., McMinnville.

Cost of participation is $20, with scholarships available; enrollment is limited to the first 125 children signed up. Sessions take plance from 9 a.m. to noon for first- and second-graders and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. for third- through fifth-graders.

Linfield soccer holds camp

The Linfield men’s and women’s soccer programs are hosting a coed soccer camp August 15-18 at the Linfield Soccer Field.

Girls and boys in grades 1-8 will receive instruction from current Linfield coaches and players. Drills and competitive games will be used to develop campers’ skills.

Sessions occur from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. each day. Campers are encouraged to wear cleats or tennis shoes, T-shirts, shorts and shin guards and bring water.

Cost of participation is $75, and registration will be prior to and on the first day of camp.

Fastpitch Northwest holds softball clinic

Fastpitch Northwest will hold a prospect evaluation clinic for area high school softball players Wednesday, June 22, at the Delta Park Softball Complex in Portland.

The clinic is for players who will graduate from high school in 2017 through 2021.It is designed to evaluate and assist players in their desire to “play at the next level.” 

Performance at the June evaluation clinic determines if a player will be invited to Fastpitch Northwest’s College Exposure Championship tournament in July (19-20-21) in Centralia, Washington. More than 40 college coaches will be attending this year’s tournament.

Physical tests for PEC participants includes SPARQ (Speed, Power, Agility, Reaction and Quickness) and National Fastpitch Coaches Association Comparatives, which includes arm speed, bat speed and foot speed. Players are also evaluated on their hitting, fielding and base running.

The results and player information are included in their National Profile, which is uploaded on the Fastpitch NW website (www.fastpitchnw.com).

The cost of the PEC is $135. Advanced registration is required.

McMinnville Turkey Trot is July 9

McMinnville’s 31st Annual Turkey Trot, which includes an 8K Run and a 5K Run/Walk, will commence on Saturday, July 9 from 8-11 a.m. at McMinnville’s Upper City Park, near the tennis courts, and will conclude at the end of Park Drive, which is the road by the Aquatic Center. Registration is available now at getmeregistered.com (search for Turkey Rama Turkey Trot), and those who register before July 1 will receive a t-shirt. Registration is also available on the day of the race, beginning at 7 a.m. at the start of the race. The admission fees for the race are $25 for both the runners and walkers, with proceeds benefitting the Willamette Valley Cancer Foundation and the McMinnville Area Chamber of Commerce. This year’s run will allow the formation of teams of a minimum 10 participants, with a $3 discount being provided to team members. Mac Open tenis tourney set for July 8-10

The McMinnville Boys Tennis Team will be accepting registration for the Mac Open tennis tournament to be held at Cowls Street Courts July 8-10. The events scheduled are men’s and women’s singles, men’s doubles, women’s doubles, and mixed doubles.Registration forms are available at the Community Center, at Mac Sports at 438 NE Third Street, or online at www.oregontennis.net. The cost is $15 for singles, $10 per person for doubles.

Linfield Wildcats Skills Development Camp

Linfield College’s women’s basketball team is holding a basketball camp for girls in grades 2-10 on August 15-17. The event is held at Ted Wilson Gymnasium at Linfield College. Second through sixth grades will run 9 a.m.-noon; Seventh through 10th grades will run 1-4 p.m. The camp will improve fundamentals through skill development, position break down, and competitive games. T-shirts and prizes will be awarded.
