McMinnville firefighters battle duplex blaze

McMinnville firefighters responded about 12:30 a.m. Thursday to a duplex fire at 1031 N.E. Lafayette Ave.

The front of the structure was engulfed in flames when the first units arrived. Occupants of the unit that was heavily damaged by fire evacuated on their own. An occupant in the adjoining unit had to be helped to safety by firefighters.

That individual was transported by ambulance to the Willamette Valley Medical Center for treatment of smoke inhalation.

Cause of the fire is believed to be electrical in nature. Damage is estimated at $55,000.

Five pieces of equipment and 24 firefighters responded. Amity and Lafayette units covered the McMinnville station until units and personnel returned about 3 a.m.
