Pot business of interest to Warm Springs Tribes

BEND — Members of the Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs will vote Dec. 17 whether to operate a marijuana-growing facility on the reservation.

If passed, Warm Springs could become the first major tribal pot growing enterprise in Oregon.

The tribes estimate the facility and three proposed tribal-owned retail stores in the Portland and Bend areas would produce nearly $12 million of net income in the first year and $26 million the year after. Tribal officials also expect the project to create more than 80 jobs.

The Bulletin newspaper reports the tribes are looking to build a 36,000-square-foot marijuana greenhouse in sunny Central Oregon. It would include a Plexiglas ceiling.
