Oregon Art Beat features McMinnville

The show plays at 8 p.m on channels 10 and 710 on Comcast cable. It also can be seen on the show’s website, at www.opb.org.

On this episode, former McMinnville librarian Rose Marie Caughran gives a tour of the city’s art to Oregon Art Beat host Katrina Sarson. They recorded the segments in numerous locations during July, then returned in early August to tape an introduction and ending with Caughran.

The crew included Tom Shrider, who is married to Caughran’s oldest daughter, Suzette, a retired Newberg school teacher.

Shrider, the videographer, said they had to talk the librarian into appearing on camera. But once she got into it, she had plenty of ideas about places he should film.

Locations included the library, where Caughran worked for 33 years. She spent many of those years as head librarian before retiring in 1993.

Since then, she has been an active volunteer around town. She founded Trees for McMinnville and continues to be one of its main workers. She also helps with the native plant garden at the library.

Caughran has been a member of the McMinnville Downtown Association Board for many years, serving on its art committee.
