GRAND RONDE - Two incumbents won re-election Saturday to the Grand Ronde Tribal Council.

Eight candidates were vying for three paid, full-time positions on the council. Tribal members elected Cheryle Kennedy, 459 votes and 14.6 percent; Brenda Tuomi, 439 and 14.0 percent, and Jon George, 434 and 13.8 percent.

Kennedy and George were the incumbents. Tuomi fills a post previously occupied by Toby McClary who did not seek re-election.

Others receiving votes were:

Steve Bobb Sr., 432 and 13.8 percent; June Sherer, 428 and 13.7 percent; Tammy Garrison, 339 and 10.8 percent; Kathleen Tom, 315 and 10.1 percent, and Ann Lewis, 288 and 9.2 percent.

There were 3,972 eligible voting tribal members and 1,151 cast ballots. Each member could vote for three candidates.

Ballots were counted Saturday at the tribal Community Center. Results were posted on the center's front doors afterward.

The other six seats are held by Jack Giffen Jr., Tonya Gleason-Shepek, Denise Harvey, Reyn Leno, Chris Mercier and Ed Pearsall. Leno is currently serving as chair and Giffen as vice-chair.

Three seats are filled each year on an at-large basis. The top three vote-getters are seated.
