Travelers share free tips

John Francis and Caye Poe, a well-traveled husband and wife from Dayton, are planning to stage a program on unconventional travel adventures at the Dayton Community Center, 604 Fourth Ave. Their free presentation is set for 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, June 20.

According to Francis, there are many interesting and economical alternatives to conventional tourism, such as volunteering to build water filters in Africa or teach English in Asia. He and his wife plan to gather about a dozen fellow travelers to help them stage the program, which they are calling “Varieties of Travel.”

One will talk about travel clubs with foreign members who are willing to share their homes with American visitors. Others will address traveling by bike or RV.
