Firefighters battle blaze at South Albany High School

ALBANY - An Albany fire official says several dozen firefighters are battling a large blaze that started Wednesday morning in a high school cafeteria building.

The Greater Albany School District says no one has been hurt in the fire at South Albany High School.

Albany Fire spokeswoman Wanda Omdahl tells KOIN-TV the blaze was reported around 3:30 a.m.

She says part of the cafeteria building's roof collapsed around 5:30 a.m. She says the cafeteria building has been destroyed with an estimated loss of more than $1 million.

Omdahl says officials do not know yet how the fire started or what caused it.

Classes are canceled Wednesday.
