No probation? OK, says Portland judge

PORTLAND — A woman being sentenced in Portland for spitting on a TriMet bus driver and ripping out the hair of a police officer told the judge to forget about sentencing her to probation.

The 30-year-old woman, Eucharia Nwerem, told Multnomah County Circuit Judge Eric Bloch she wanted to go straight to prison because of her rocky record of complying with probation.

The Oregonian reports  the judge agreed Monday and sentenced her to 19 months in prison, plus two years of post-prison supervision.

She pleaded guilty last month to assaulting a public safety officer, resisting arrest and interfering with public transportation during a dispute over a bus fare.
