Alpaca ranch owner found guilty of animal neglect

SALEM — A Polk County alpaca ranch owner was found guilty of two felony and 16 misdemeanor charges of animal neglect.

The Statesman Journal reports the jury returned the verdict Thursday against Robert Silver who operated Jocelyn's Alpaca Ranch with his wife at Falls City.

Last December deputies and veterinarians found 58 dead alpacas at their ranch and moved 175 malnourished alpacas to the College of Veterinary Medicine at Oregon State University for emergency care.

As the rescued animals regained strength many were adopted through the Cross Creek Alpaca Rescue in Tenino, Washington.

Robert Silver is scheduled to be sentenced on Dec. 23.

His wife, Jocelyn Silver, previously pleaded guilty to neglect charges and was sentenced to three years on probation.
