Downtown stabbing injures McMinnville man

A McMinnville man was stabbed multiple times early Sunday morning and a Coos Bay man was arrested in connection with the incident, according to McMinnville police.

Capt. Tim Symons gave this account::

About 12:50 a.m., officers were dispatched to the area of Northeast Evans and Third streets on a reported fight. They quickly learned one individual had been stabbed.

The victim, Jaime Alfredo Jimenez, 30, of McMinnville, was transported by McMinnville Fire Department ambulance to Willamette Valley Medical Center with non life-threatening stab wounds.

Witnesses provided police with a description of the alleged assailant, a Latino adult male who was wearing a red shirt.

The suspect was seen running from the area after being positively identified by witnesses.

Stephen Brandon Garr, 19, of Coos Bay, was located and taken into custody. He was charged with one count each of second-degree assault, aggravated menacing and unlawful use of a weapon. Garr was lodged in the Yamhill County Jail on $167,500 bail.

Second-degree assault is a Class B felony and Measure 11 offense, punishable on conviction by a mandatory minimum prison sentence. Unlawful use of a weapon is a Class C felony. Menacing is a misdemeanor.

Garr will tentatively be arraigned at 1:20 p.m. Monday in circuit court.
