Winds fan slash pile fires on north Oregon coast

ARCH CAPE — Firefighters on the Oregon Coast battled several small fires that resulted when winds from the east fanned fires in logging waste.

The Daily Astorian reports the fires spread Tuesday afternoon from slash piles burning on Stimson Lumber Company land east of Highway 101 near Arch Cape in southern Clatsop County.

Cannon Beach firefighters said it could take two days to bring them under control. They said the smoke made it hard to determine the number and size of the fires.
